I love how Chat and Gem came up with some insane (perhaps impossible?) ideas that could have been really cool but then said “anyway here’s a vanilla drawing of a bike that I drew - it’s angsty bc I listened to a very mild My Chemical Romance song while drawing it”
Part of the beauty of the assignment is having to work within the constraints of the medium, and most of the ideas would've had to use things like color or more varied texturing than could be accomplished in graphite. That's the beauty of the assignment! What can you do with limits?
There are a lot of things that this tech is incredibly good at and I'm very thankful for some of the things that it's really, really not good at. As somebody who makes hopefully-listenable indie rock music, I asked ChatGPT when it would be competing with me, and it said the timeline is years, not months. I still have some time to get this dumb career off the ground.
Less confident about having any future in punditry. It's not like AI is incredible at it, but it can do it decently enough to be readable, and it makes a marketplace that is already a hundred times more crowded than it needs to be virtually impenetrable.
My actual career... somewhere in the middle. I think I'll be one of those lucky people who gets to keep the same job, it's just way easier.
I applied to risd in 2015 (did not get in) and for my bike drawing I got on my bike and made my mom take a bunch of photos of me on the bike and then picked a few to use as reference for when I started drawing... Chatgpt could never

Gonna place this bike in a situation

This article has inspired me to do art, I refuse to acknowledge that LLMs can draw better than I
I'm fairly certain that my daughter's application to CalArts did not include any drawings of bikes.
It was just a RISD thing, and even they don't do it anymore
